London-based Amanda Levete Architects has won the design competition to design the £35m extension of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, UK.

The extension will feature an underground gallery and an above-ground courtyard and will be developed under FuturePlans, the museum’s second ten-year phase of restoration and redesign.

Amanda Levete’s design includes an open public courtyard with a carpet-like pattern and a new 1,500m² underground gallery space.

Work on the extension is scheduled to be complete by 2015.
