Austria-based architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au has won the competition to design a new parliamentary complex for the Republic of Albania.

Plans for the Open Parliament of Albania include a parliamentary hall situated inside a glazed cone wrapped in a curtain-like exterior skin made from panels of perforated steel.

The building will also feature a stairway at the base of the main building that will lead to the landscaped roof offering views down into the parliamentary hall.

The main entrance to the building is through a solid conical structure, designed to act as a counterpart to the transparent parliamentary hall.
