Construction of the 2012 Olympic Stadium has been completed on time and under budget in London, UK, according to the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA).
The stadium was designed by global architectural practice Populous and the design and architectural team was led by Sir Robert McAlpine.
The stadium has an elliptical shape and stands 63m above the field of play.
“To complete a complicated project such as this in less than three years is testament to the skill and professionalism of the UK construction industry,” said ODA chairman John Armitt. “I would like to thank the Team Stadium consortium and all of the workers for their hard work and commitment.”
The site is spread over 40 acres and is surrounded by water on three sides.
Over 240 UK businesses won contracts for the construction of the stadium and over 5,250 people have worked on the project since May 2008.
