The United Nations (UN) has opened a new energy-efficient office complex in Nairobi, Kenya.

The complex consists of four buildings that can house 1200 employees.

Sustainable features including 6000m² of solar panels, automated low-energy lighting and energy-efficient computers are incorporated throughout the facility.

Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the UN, called the facility a model for green architecture in Africa and beyond.

He added that the UN is also aiming to make its headquarters in New York one of the cleanest and greenest buildings in the world.
