Authorities have unveiled plans for a $20m expansion of the Kalamazoo County Jail facility in Michigan, US.

The expansion is being designed by Indiana-based design firms RQAW and Byce & Associates.

The project will see the construction of a facility that will accommodate 250 additional beds.

The new wing will also house an inmate medical care facility, an area to store inmate property, and a modified kitchen.

Construction is slated to begin in mid-2012.
