The University of Rochester has opened the $60m Saunders Research Building on its campus in Rochester, New York, US.
The building was designed by Philadephia-based architectural firm Francis Cauffman in collaboration with local engineer Bergmann Associates and Boston-based BR+A Consulting Engineers.
The building’s external design features include orientation and a shallow footprint aimed at increasing exposure to daylight and windows that are wrapped around upper floors maximising sunlight exposure.
The offices inside the building are arranged perpendicular to the exterior windows and are equipped with glass walls to allow more light into the building.
The Saunders Research Building is eligible to become the first LEED-certified building at the University of Rochester campus.
