UK-based developer McLaren has secured approval for the £35m redevelopment of Dolphin Square in Weston-Super-Mare, UK, from North Somerset Council.

The redevelopment of the derelict shopping mall site will include the construction of a Premier Inn hotel, a restaurant, a public house and a multistorey car park.

Additional plans include construction of a mixed-use retail and leisure complex with a multiplex, a restaurant, retail units and a health and fitness suite.

Construction of the hotel is scheduled to begin in mid-2011, while work on the car park will begin in November 2011, with completion scheduled for April 2012.

Work on demolition of the existing Dolphin Square complex and construction of the remaining elements is expected to be carried out between early 2012 and 2013.
