Towson University has announced plans to commence work on the $68m Towson Arena on its campus in Towson, Maryland, US.

Tiger Arena will feature five mezzanine-level private suites, 340 club seats around the top of the lower bowl and 120 courtside seats.

The arena features a column-free interior, which provides unobstructed views from anywhere in the arena.

The building will also include a hospitality room, a multi-purpose room and a Tiger Hall of Fame Room in addition to a new multimedia studio.

Baltimore-based Hord Coplan Macht, in association with Sasaki Associates of Boston, are the local design architects for the firm.

Construction will begin in May 2011 with completion scheduled for early 2013.
