Steven Holl Architects has completed work on the Cité de l’Océan et du Surf, a sea and surf museum in Biarritz, France.
The building is designed to simultaneously give visitors the impression of being under the sky and below the sea, and echoes the tidal movement of oceans.
The building, clad in glass and concrete, is shaped like a wave with a convex structural ceiling.
The complex also contains an empty concrete skater’s pool, symbolising the connection between surfing and skateboarding.
The museum is slated to open in mid 2011.
