Paris-based developer Unibail-Rodamco has announced that it will commence work on the €321m Aeroville shopping centre in Paris within the next two months.

The Aeroville shopping centre will house 200 shops, 25 restaurants, nurseries, medical centres, spas and an ultra-modern Auchan hypermarket.

The centre's design draws inspiration from five continents, including Nordic Chic, Tokyo Mix, Tropical Design, Bali Market and Africa Lodge.

The facility will consume 40% less energy than other centres of a similar size.

The use of glass walls throughout the mall is expected to reduce the need for artificial lighting by maximising natural light.

The mall will also feature a partially underground parking lot that will reduce the need for lighting and facilitate natural ventilation.

Work on the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.
