Los Angeles Mission College in California, US, has unveiled the design for a $38m building that will integrate its physical education and athletic programmes.

The facility has been designed by architectural firm Cannon Design, according to the International Business Times.

The facility will house three multipurpose rooms, five classrooms, offices for coaches, faculty and administrators, locker rooms and an athletics training room with a hydrotherapy area.

The three courts of the gymnasium will be able to be divided into a two-court performance gym with 600 spectator seats or an auxiliary one-court gymnasium.

The spectator seating is retractable, and when it is pushed into the walls three recreational basketball courts can be created.

The building features a three-lane elevated jogging track around the perimeter of the gymnasium's second level, offering views of the gym and the San Gabriel Mountains.

Several sustainable features will be incorporated with the intention of securing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for the building.
