The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has unveiled the design for a proposed expansion that will double its exhibition and education space.
The design has been prepared by architectural firm Snøhetta, in collaboration with the museum and EHDD.
The expansion will add a total area of 21,000m² to the current facility.
The east side of the building will feature a façade and an entrance in an unused area through the creation of a mid-block, open-air pedestrian promenade.
The promenade will include a series of stairs and landings terracing up to an entry court that extends from the new east entrance.
A second façade will feature a street-level gallery enclosed in glass on three sides.
