DePaul University has broken ground for a new building for The Theatre School on its campus in Chicago, Illinois, US.

The new building has been designed by architectural firm Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects.

The glass and limestone building has been designed to emphasise openness and transparency.

The building will feature a 100-seat flexible theatre, which will be partially visible behind a translucent glass wall that will be lit at night.

The ground floor will feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows revealing the scene shop, the student lounge and the lobby of the 250-seat thrust theatre.

The fourth floor houses classrooms and rehearsal rooms in addition to a 100-seat theatre.

The new theatre building is slated for completion in 2013.
