The University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory have broken ground for a new building dedicated to energy sciences.

The $95m building has been designed by architecture firm HDR.

The Energy Sciences Building will focus on five themes that are key to implementing Argonne's energy strategy.

Construction of the new building is scheduled for completion in 2013.

The new facility will be built to comply with international green building standards and is expected to achieve LEED certification.
