Japanese design practice Sanaa has unveiled plans for the conversion of the La Samaritaine department store in Paris, France, into a mixed-use complex.

The art deco building will be transformed into offices, apartments, shops and a Cheval Blanc hotel.

The refurbishment of the complex is estimated to cost €450m.

The plan will also see three neighbouring buildings converted.

Work on the project is expected to begin in July 2012, with completion scheduled for mid-2014.
