Construction of the 1,400-home athletes’ village for the Commonwealth Games has commenced in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, three years ahead of the 2014 Games.
The £150m village is being built by City Legacy Consortium consisting of developers CCG, Cruden, Mactaggart and Mickel and WH Malcolm.
The 38.5ha development will house over 6,500 competitors and officials during the games with temporary facilities being added later.
After the ending of the games, the site will be converted to 304 private homes, 300 rented houses and a 120-bed care home for older people.
According to officials, building methods and energy supply methods are expected to reduce carbon emissions from the facility by around 60%.
