Mars Chocolate North America is planning to build a new manufacturing facility in Topeka, Kansas, in order to meet the growing demand for its confectionery products.
Mars is planning to invest $250m in the first phase of this multiphase project.
Phase I of the new site is scheduled to be complete in 2013, at which time the site will begin manufacturing M&M’s and Snickers-branded chocolates.
The company expects to hire approximately 200 full-time operations associates to resource the lines installed during the initial phase.
Subsequent phases of development will expand the capacity of the facility and add more product lines.
The new facility will be built to meet environmental standards, and aims to achieve LEED Gold certification upon completion.
