UK multidisciplinary consultancy Capita Symonds has been appointed by Airbus Operations to provide management and design services for its £70m Aerospace Park project in Filton, Bristol.
Under the deal, Capita Symonds will offer a range of design and real estate services including project management, architectural design, acoustics, landscape design, structural engineering, cost management, CDMC, and BREEAM consultancy.
The 12-acre site, adjacent to the A38, will feature a campus-style development comprising a mix of new build and refurbished office accommodation and involves the refurbishment and reworking of old Filton House, a vernacular scaled Georgian farmhouse.
The manufacturing and engineering design input for the redeveloped location will be provided by Aecom, while the park project will accommodate more than 2,500 of the company’s employees in engineering, design, customer support and other sectors.
The project includes a new build low-rise 24,000m² main office building, while the site’s existing Art Deco Pegasus House will be refurbished to provide 3,600m² of office accommodation for 450 staff including a cafe and a 350-seat auditorium.
Airbus said that the new building would be designed with the maximum use of natural ventilation, a BREEAM rating of Very Good and energy use targets of less than 50kWh/m²/y in mind.
Design work and the preparation of the planning application will commence immediately and construction will commence in February 2012 with completion in the second quarter of 2013.
