Architecture and design firm BDP has secured two new contracts in the Chinese city of Suzhou, west of Shanghai.

The first project is the Suzhou Dushu Lake master plan, a mixed-use high-density retail and residential development together with high-rise office and ground-level commercial uses.

The development includes 3,000 residential units, 135,000m² of offices, a pair of 220-room luxury hotels, along with a multilevel shopping and leisure centre including basement car parking.

The company also won a contract for Suzhou Yinshan Lake Sports Centre, a leisure facility overlooking Lake Yinshan.

A key driver of the design is to maximise the views from the building, which is a 4,600m² leisure complex based around an indoor sports hall, on a site that has already been extensively landscaped.
