Anwar Soura General Contracting Company and 360 Architecture are to design and build two new 30,000-seat football stadiums in Iraq.

The stadiums, to be built at an estimated cost of $86m and $83.75m receptively, will be located in Al-Menaa, a suburb of Basrah, and Najaf, located around 100 miles south of Baghdad.

The Al-Menaa stadium, which will feature a nautical design and a series pedestrian-friendly park and public spaces, is scheduled to be complete in 2013.

The Najaf stadium will feature a square exterior and latticework inspired by Islamic designs, as well as passive cooling towers.

The partners are also working on Basrah Sport City, which includes a multiuse development, a 65,000-seat stadium and a 10,000-seat stadium, which is still under construction.

The Basrah Sport City stadiums are expected to host the 2013 Gulf Cup on completion.
