De Architekten Cie. has won a competition to transform a derelict port area in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, into an urban district.

The De Architekten Cie. team, led by associates Jason Lee and Patrick Koschuch, worked in collaboration with Rosetta Elkin of RSE Landscape on the winning proposal.

The 15.42ha site houses the derelict Port Station Railyards of the old port.

The Kaohsiung city authority’s brief for the site required its transformation from a barrier between two important areas into a connecting space.

The redevelopment will highlight the cultural and historical heritage of the site, according to Lee and Koschuch.
