Manchester-based architecture firm BDP is to design the next stage of development of Lancashire County Cricket Club (LCCC) in the UK.

BDP designed the first phase, The Point, a purpose-built £12m conference and events venue, and will shortly begin work on stages two and three of the Old Trafford transformation.

Phase two of the project will have a permanent capacity of 15,000 seats, which will be extended to 25,000 for major matches.

The facilities will be supplemented with modern facilities for the media, players, education and the club’s support staff.

The new ground design also integrates a number of energy and resource efficiency measures including rainwater harvesting, solar collectors and low-energy lighting.

Construction work is expected to begin in late 2011, with completion due in 2013.
