Airport architecture and engineering firm ADPI has unveiled plans for the upgrade and expansion of Malé International Airport, Maldives.
The $400m redevelopment project is being executed by Indian infrastructure conglomerate GMR.
The project will involve the construction of a 45,000m² new terminal, as well as repair and expansion work on the runway to allow more flights to land every hour.
The existing terminal is being upgraded before the construction of a new terminal on the opposite side of the island of Hulhulé.
The new terminal will include several sustainable features including seawater air-conditioning, according to minivannews.com.
The new terminal is slated for completion in 2014.
