Lawrence Public Library Foundation in Kansas, US has unveiled a proposed design for a $19m expansion of the library at Seventh and Vermont streets.

Gould Evans architects offered the preliminary designs for the project in 2010.

The project will replace concrete with large windows and convert part of a car park into a new grassy public plaza.

Plans for the project include adding 20,000ft² of new space to the library; the existing spaces – representing about 47,000ft² – also will be completely renovated.

A 70ft-wide grassy plaza will stretch between the library and a new 250-space car park that will be located just south of the library.
