Willmott Dixon has won a contract from Birmingham City University in the UK for its £61m project to build phase one of its City Centre Campus.

The new campus, which forms part of the university’s £180m investment plan, will be located in Birmingham’s Eastside district.

Willmott Dixon will build an 18,310m² building to house the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) on a plot adjacent to Millennium Point.

The five-storey building has been designed by Associated Architects and will feature a large media hub to include TV, radio and photographic studios.

Construction on the first phase of the project will start in late 2011 and is scheduled to be complete by September 2013.
