Guam Community College’s (GCC) learning resource centre in the US has secured LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council.

The two-storey, 22,000ft² centre was designed by Taniguchi Ruth Makio Architects principal Michael Makio.

The facility incorporates photovoltaic solar panels, digital temperature controls, energy-efficient windows and lighting, and furniture made from recyclable materials.

The sustainable features also include a recent grant for sustainable furniture for the new student centre, which is scheduled to open in December 2011, according to pacificnewscenter.com.
