The Land Management Corporation of South Australia, which is holding the Zero Carbon Challenge competition, has named five finalists to create the best design for a zero-carbon house in green village Lochiel Park in Campbelltown, South Australia.

The main aim of the competition is to design a sustainable three-bedroom home for a maximum cost of $300,000.

The next stage of the competition will involve the five teams taking their initial concepts to detailed design, costing and calculation of embodied and operating energy in September and early October 2011.

The winning team will also be required to work with a carbon verification consultant to assess their design in accordance with the Australian Government’s national carbon offset standard.

This verification will then be submitted to the Australian Government for certification.
