Charleston approves a $142m makeover of Gaillard Auditorium

The city of Charleston, South Carolina, US, has approved a plan for a $142m makeover of the Gaillard Auditorium to create a world-class performing arts centre.

The Charleston City Board of Architectural Review has approved preliminary design plans for the renovation of the city’s Gaillard Municipal Auditorium provided by David M Schwarz Architects

The new building features a set of pavilions instead of the curving, one-storey colonnade that partly screened the building from Calhoun Street.

The construction work of the project will commence in August 2012 and the project is expected to be completed in late 2014.
