The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved a master plan for the redevelopment of Fort McPherson in Atlanta.

The plan, which converts a military base to civilian control, converts the 488-acre base into a mix of residential and commercial development, high-tech research facilities and open space while preserving historic buildings.

The McPherson Implementing Local Redevelopment Authority designed the master plan with the aid of global architectural firm HOK.

The plans for the development include a 127-acre biotech research complex, a 21-acre Department of Veterans Affairs clinic, 153 acres of green space and 1,780 new residential units.
