A design team led by Ledcor has secured a contract to develop the new $340m Royal Alberta Museum in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The Ledcor team comprises Ledcor Construction, Dialog Designs and Lundholm Associates Architects.

The new museum will connect the main business and arts district to Chinatown and the 36,000m² building will double the size of the current Glenora facility.

The design includes three terraces, one attached to the second-floor for an aboriginal exhibit, one for the children’s area, and one attached to the cafe.

The museum will also have an outdoor amphitheatre for music and arts, and a large screen visible from the surrounding park space.

The museum is expected to be operational by 2015.
