Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid has won the London Design Medal, presented at the London Design Festival at its opening ceremony on Monday.

The award, presented for her contribution to UK architecture and design, came just short of a month since she was also named as one of London's three most powerful women – along with the Queen and chief executive of the London Stock Exchange Clara Fuse.

Hadid has designed the Mind Zone in the Millennium Dome in London and the Glasgow Museum of Transport.
