UK firm Glenn Howells Architects will design a new 60,000m² residential and commercial development that will become a new architectural icon in the UK city of Bradford.

The Citygate project which the designer says will form a 'gateway' into the city, was recently approved for planning following a competitive process that has taken place since 2005.

The firm says it worked closely with Asquith Properties and the City of Bradford Metropolitan district Council to design the high-density mix of townhouses, apartments, offices and a hotel with a 1,000-seat banqueting suite.

Glenn Howells Architects made the shortlist of the RIBA Stirling Prize this year for the Savill building in Windsor.
