A Lend Lease-led consortium and the Architecture Foundation has shortlisted contenders for the development of east London’s Stratford City athletes village and Paralympics Games site.
The 47 selected practices – from around Europe, the US and Australia – will now vie for 20 to 30 individual commissions.
Included alongside well-known names such as UNStudio of the Netherlands, Penoyre & Prasad and Denton Corker Marshall are young studios of the likes of east London practice Plasma Studios, Amin Taha, Sergison Bates and Piercy Connor.
Lend Lease Europe Chairman Nigil Hugill says a team of ten from the Stratford City Design Review Panel judged all entries from a selection of 434 submissions.
The final tenders will see winners create individual elements of the high-density residential district.
“We are confident that the panel we have selected will deliver truly world-class architecture,” Hugill says.
The master plan for the village is being designed by Fletcher Priest Architects, with West 8 and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and will be released in December this year.
The final tender will require cooperation with the design team and other stakeholders to develop individual structures that tie-in with the overall ambience of the village.
