A Scottish design centre which champions Scotland’s architecture and design is facing a cash crisis, it was revealed today.

The Lighthouse in Glasgow said its budget is overstretched by £300,000 following a decision by Scottish politicians to not to fund the Six Cities Design Festivals and an overspend at this year’s Venice Design Biennale, according to local news reports.

The centre has asked Glasgow City Council to back a rescue package which also includes commitments from Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Government.

Requests for additional funding will go before Glasgow City Council’s Executive Committee on Friday.

The Lighthouse claims on its website that its vision is to be a leading body for the promotion of architecture, design and the creative industries, locally, nationally and internationally by engaging people of all ages through a creative exhibition, education and business programme.
