Corgan Associates, a US architectural firm, has been selected to modernise the 50-year-old Dallas Love Field Airport.

Corgan has been asked to decrease the terminal's size by about 25% by renovating unused and outdated space with modern facilities.

The three concourses will be replaced by a new centralised one with 20 gates and the lobby will be remodelled, with an expanded baggage claim area and new ticketing wing added.

Corgan Associates has worked with the airport for 50 years – Jack Corgan and other architects from the firm designed Love Field Airport in 1956.

The redesigned terminal will aim for LEED certification.

The demolition of the terminal will begin later in 2009 and the first phase of construction is slated to be complete in 2012. The entire project aims to be open for operation in 2014.
