The so-called Chapel of Love will be built from timber and clad in gold coloured, stainless steel shingles, and will feature a telescopic wedding tower.

Part of the larger £14.3m Tower Headland development, the project is backed by ReBlackpool, Blackpool’s urban regeneration company.

Built on the basis of a low-carbon emission scheme, the Chapel of Love will also house a beach café and tourist information centre.

Design plans have been submitted to the council for approval. Work is expected to start later this year with scheduled completion in November 2010.
