A theatre in London's East End is planning to appoint architects to design the buildings first carbon neutral theatre building.

The 350-seat weather proof theatre will be built using sustainable materials including straw bales and doors salvaged from skips.

The theatre will feature an expanded main theatre with two smaller studios, an eco cafe, gym, learning centre, an enterprise centre with offices and laboratories and technology and product design firms and a park.

Engineer Arup has been allocated pro bono work for the proposal.

Work on the new theatre is expected to begin in 2010 and completion due in 2012.
