Wandsworth Council in London is set to approve plans to build the 100m-tall American Embassy tower at Battersea, for which four US architects have been shortlisted.

The news comes despite the criticism from the government's architectural Advisory Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, London Mayor Boris Johnson and public body English Heritage.

The Wandsworth officers, however, say the project would bring jobs and regeneration to the region.

The scheme will be discussed by members of the council next week.
