The University of Greenwich in the UK has appointed Irish firm Heneghan Peng Architects to design a £60m new campus library and a home for its school of architecture and construction.
Heneghan Peng has been selected by a selection panel chaired by architect Lord Rogers out of seven shortlisted firms. There were 70 applicants for the project.
The 17,000m² new campus construction will be based in 0.64ha site in Greenwich town centre, near a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The university plans early site development, and the first students and staff are expected to use the building by 2013/14.
The new construction initiative will increase staff and student numbers in the town.
The university is currently clearing the site and surveying buildings.
