Five Firms Shortlisted for Basque Port Development

Five firms have been shortlisted in a competition to design a port in the Basque region of Spain.

The firms include Zaha Hadid Architects, London practice S333, Dutch firms West 8 and KCAP, and Spanish firm Ezquiag, bdonline.co.uk reports.

The port is expected to be expanded between 2011 and 2020 leaving 68ha on the seafront for redevelopment.

In total, 47 teams applied for the competition which was organised by local development body, Gipuzkoa Aurrera.

The winner will receive €150,000 with other shortlisted teams receiving €50,000 each.

The jury will announce the winner in January 2010.
