The number of unemployed architects has risen to 2,055, equal to 7% of all registered architects in the UK, according to a new report.

The Office for National Statistics said that the official number of claims for unemployment benefits by architects was six times higher than in 2008, architectsjournal.co.uk reports.

Since June, 275 more architects have signed up for unemployment benefits.

Out of 2,055 claimants, about 1,995 are willing to return to the profession while the rest want a change of career, ONS reveals.
