Foster + Partners has joined a consortium to examine the use of building technology that can be used for future space exploration.

The team is expected to submit a proposal to the European Space Agency as part of its Aurora programme, a plan for the robotic and human exploration of solar system bodies that could harbour traces of life.

Foster + Partners is expected to study the lunar materials on how they could be used for construction.

The bid also involves the Italian technology firm Alta.

Foster + Partners collaborated with URS and has also designed the world's first private spaceport in New Mexico, which will be used by Virgin Galactic.
