The Londong and Istanbul offices of Swanke Hayden Connell Architects (SHCA) are to collaborate on the design of an eight-storey building in a residential suburb of Istanbul, Turkey.

The concept designs for the 92-unit apartments were commissioned and delivered following a master plan by SHCA for the 2.4ha site which includes several development plots and an organic market.

The building will have one, two and three bedroom studio apartments alongside retail units at street level for housing small cafes, restaurants or specialist food shops.

On the east side, the apartments will be stacked to form bays creating a vertical emphasis while the the west side of the building will be designed with a horizontal emphasis achieved by grouping windows in a horizontal arrangement.

The construction design phase is now underway and the building is scheduled to be complete in 2011.
