Construction firms, Laing O'Rourke and Bouygues have submitted bids to secure a £350m contract to rebuild schools across England.

The contract is run by London local authorities in Barking and Dagenham, under its Building Schools for the Future (BSF) contract.

The winning bidder will collaborate to form a local education partnership and will rebuild nine schools, one special school and a tuition centre with a mix of PFI and design and build arrangements in the Barking and Dagenham area.

The PQQ deadline lapsed this month and the shortlisted names are expected to be released by next week.

The final chosen bidder is expected to be announced in July 2010 and work is expected to begin in January 2011.
