Three architecture firms have been shortlisted to build a tower making up part of the £1bn 2012 Athletes' Village in London.

UK practice Byrne Group and two Irish practices Bennett Construction and P Elliott have been shortlisted to build the N14 block.

The Athletes' Village houses 11 towers and will be used by competitors.

The chosen firm to be announced next week will win the contract worth more than £80m.

The first five plots will be built by the Australian developer Lend Lease, while the UK's Ardmore Group will build the sixth block.

The remaining five blocks are spread across three contracts and the final four blocks will be given out as pairs in the next two months.
