The Australian Government has launched its Safe Climate Bill in Canberra in a bid to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Australia.

The bill focuses on the importance of green buildings practices through using renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, clean transport, forest protection and green jobs.

The Safe Climate Bill, which is supported by The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), is a collection of linked bills with an emphasis on the carbon pricing scheme.

It was revealed that 23% of the greenhouse gases emitted from commercial and residential buildings equates to 130 mega tonnes of greenhouse gases each year.

The bill surmised that reducing greenhouse emissions through the application of green building concepts was the best cost-effective solution.
