Australian architecture practice Super Colossal has been selected to design the master plan for the 16.5ha Gold Coast Cultural and Civic Precinct in Australia.

The master plan involves building new facilities for the Gold Coast Council including a performing arts centre, a visual arts and heritage centre, a cinema complex, restaurants, accommodation, parks, and a pedestrian and bicycle walkway.

The master plan covers the floating island in a glaze, while the spaces carved from the island by bridges. Public spaces are lined with stone and feature large openings for cultural and civic facilities.

The design draws inspiration from the ancient islands in the Laguna Veneta, such as the Isola Murano and Isola San Michele.
