Danish Architects to Design Kazakh National Library

Danish firm Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) has been awarded a contract to design the Astana National Library in Kazakhstan.

The 33,000m² facility features a mobius strip-inspired structure made up of four rooms - a circle, a rotunda, an arch and a yurt, enclosed in a single double-looping surface.

Books in the library will be arranged in circulatory order with a courtyard in the centre.The building's façade will vary from wall to roof.

The library is expected to be complete by early 2012.
