UK practice Riches Hawley Mikhail Architects (RHMA) has secured planning permission to develop a private studio development in East London.

The project is being developed for artist Yinka Shonibare.

The 400m², four-storey development will include studio space and new residence quarters. The ground floor will double up as project and gallery space.

Lime-mortar bonded bricks will be used following the traditional London building technique of tuck-pointing which avoids loss of light to adjacent windows.

The project site is surrounded by heritage buildings on three sides.

RHMA has also refurbished an existing two-storey building on the site.
