The UK Green Building Council has urged the construction industry to work towards lowering carbon emissions by 50% by 2020.

The Climate Change Act set a target of a 34% reduction in emissions, however, scientists and pressure groups have now asked for a 40% reduction. The 50% asked for by the UK Green Building Council is the largest target of its kind set in the world.

Construction firm Balfour Beatty and and developer LendLease have supported the plans.
